Maybe I called it the wrong thing, but the painted side pieces in the rear. I got the screws out that are under the seat, but not sure about the nipples holding from the bottom. one is rubber and one looks like hard plastic.

i dont know if you have the service manual, but they call those things the seat covers apparently there seems to be 10screws/bolts (2 of which are under that center little cover behind the seat) and 2 plastic rivits...and ur right, its got a rubber grommet on the fairing side that the plastic nipple from the bottom fender goes into, if you don't have the service manual, shoot me ur email and ill send u a copy

there ar 2 quick rivetsunder side pieces push the center in with small screwdriver then they will pull out. remove toolbox(4 screws inside it) remove ecu (it just sits in there , there are 2 rubber slotted thingys each side of ecu just get ur fingers under them and pull up) ecu will just swing forward enough for you to work.
remove the top tail piece screw the bottom of this piece is in the tail light assembly (rubber grommet) i left it attached to taillight till i removed it. now if you look back in behind where ecu sat u will see a phillipshead screw on each side that hold taillight in place remove those and tail light will pull out.
now to remove the sides once all screws on top and quick rivets are out kinda pull up on the back (there is a rubber grommet on tails piece that sit on a post on bike)and out (not too far have to disconnect turn signals)

I am installing a small bracket to the tail section that will extend below the seat covers. They will be perminant so I can connect and disconnect a hitch to them. The rest of the hitch locates off the exhaust mounting bolts. I only need to get to one bolt on each side of the tail section to mount this bracket.
